Springtime Encouragement from Psalm 1, for New Seasons

Updated: Oct 1, 2023

1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalm 1:1 - 3 New King James Version)

Regarding an application, for us women; a blessed one is she who does not walk, carry herself, or have any likeness to the ungodly. Rather, she delights in the law of the Lord, and mediates on it day and night. From having done so, everything which she does will prosper, because she is in Him.

The truth may be daunting to know, as when we find ourselves in a tough season or in a trial, we may then believe that we are not prospering, and therefore find ourselves having doubt. Yet, the Lord creates a beautiful image in the figurative language that He uses through His servant, the palmist of Psalm 1. Though, the Lord is the ultimate author.

With that being said, the blessed one is one who will be like a tree, planted by rivers of water. As a tree that is planted by rivers of water is a fortunate, and prosperous tree, it is still subjected to harsh seasons, hard times, or trimming of its branches for its benefit; still, the tree will overcome such due to its abundance of water – its source of life. Like our comparison, we too are subjected to such things, yet we are fortunate and continuing in growth, and the having of more life, as we are planted in our Lord Jesus Christ, from our Father having begotten Him, for us.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 New King James Version)

So then, whatever we endure next to our Lord will help us grow, and whatever we desire to do in Him will take place, as His word expresses so.

But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:27 New King James Version)

With this knowledge, may we then not fret over the chaff whom experiences seasons of growth, nor the chaff which may be among us.

4 The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish. (Psalm 1:4 - 6 New King James Version)

Though the chaff experiences growth and rain for such, the Lord will separate the chaff from the wheat, being His children.

His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” (Matthew 3:12 New King James Version)

So, to draw some application, for the age of social media, may we look to not fret over another who may have the lifestyle, family, type of husband, or wholesomeness which we may desire, yet obtain such in an ungodly way, or do not walk in the light of Christ; for it rains on the just and unjust.

that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. (Matthew 5:45 New King James Version)

With that being said, may we not fret over the one’s who have such and walked in the light of Christ, as His will is good. For another's seasons of rain may be our opportunity to grow in the Lord, by not harboring envy, discontentment, or covetousness. Likewise, the Lord is the One who makes one's work of any value.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58 New King James Version)

In essence, we may recall the One who planted us, and where He has planted us by, so that we do not doubt, as we have an endless source of life. Our source of water, which we have access to, is not too small for our thirsts, or needs. Therefore, may we not move ourselves from the godliness which we are planted by, being our Father; instead, may we mediate on His word for more revelations.

Happy Spring!
